The Port Elgin S.P.Y. (Sustainability Planning for Youth) Camp was held in August, 2010. Five youth participated in the 2-day camp which gave participants a fun way to learn about sustainable development. SPY missions that the campers took part in were hands on, interactive and sneaky! They learned about their community and explored together what they wanted to see in their home town in the future. The camp achieved the following objectives:
- The camp members gained an increased awareness about rural community issues including community planning, local environmental issues, sustainable land use planning, culture and heritage.
- The camp members learned their responsibilities towards their local environment.
- The camp members learned the benefits of living and growing up in a rural community.
- The camp members created a wish list for youth in their community and wrote a formal letter to Village Council with their recommendations.
