3. Clothing Swap
Join us for a free clothing swap- bring some clothes to donate and or take some home with you!

Clothing swaps are a sustainable way to promote using second-hand items rather than buying things new. By participating in a clothing swap you are 1. Encouraging a circular economy where clothes are exchanged among peers, thus, fostering a sense of community, 2. Fostering mindful consumption habits and becoming more aware about sustainable fashion practices, 3. Reducing the need to produce new clothing items, which reduces air pollution, water pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, and 4. Reducing waste! When clothing is donated to thrift stores, there is a risk that the unsold clothing will be discarded, ending up in a landfill. Clothing swaps ensure items are directly reused.

This event is being hosted in partnership with Catalyst MTA and the Geography and Environment Society.

You can drop clothes you’d like to donate for the clothing swap, to the EOS Eco-Energy office at 43D Main St, Sackville, NB. Any clothes that are not taken home from the clothing swap will be donated after.

Food, herbs, flowers, and even weeds offer benefits to the backyard ecosystem, including in the winter! In this workshop, you will learn how to design gardens to support and attract pollinators and provide beauty, food, and herbs for you as well. Pollinators need our support year-round, and many of our edible and medicinal perennials are perfect food and habitat for our flying friends. We will discuss useful edible and medicinal plants, how they create important habitat, and how to care for your gardens with beneficial insects in mind.

7. Free Youth Workshop – Tantramar/Strait Shores Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Reconciliation (EDIR) Training Program

EOS and the Sackville Commons Cooperative are hosting a train-the-trainer program, offered by the Tamarack Institute (https://www.tamarackcommunity.ca/). Rochelle Ignacio (Director of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion) from the Tamarack Institute will be leading this program.

EDIR is something that should be taken into account when trying to push for climate change among communities. It’s usually those within equity deserving groups that are most affected by climate change. This workshop is a train-the-trainers program, so youth will learn how to actively address and teach about EDIR issues as they move forward with environmental causes.

Program Overview: This program seeks to empower high school and post-secondary students, leaders, and volunteers from community and non-profit sectors to facilitate workshops and lead initiatives around equity, diversity, inclusion, and reconciliation (EDIR). This program is available to youth ages 14-30. This program consists of two interactive workshops aimed at developing changemakers who can find the language to activate their voice, take control of the narrative, and bring the learnings back to their communities.

Participants will learn how to handle difficult conversations and design inclusive policies for decision-making in their communities. Specific attention will be paid to the Tantramar and Strait Shores Municipality areas, with issues impacting the local communities and Amlamgog (Fort Folly) First Nation.
Program Structure: The program will be divided into two workshops over one weekend, with each session providing foundational knowledge, hands-on activities, and strategies for leading future EDIR initiatives.

Dates and Times:
Workshop 1: Bias, Social Location, Anti-Racism, and Indigenous Cultural Competency: Saturday, February 8, 12:30 – 5:00 pm (including 30 min break)
Workshop 2: Accessibility and 2SLGBTQIA+ Inclusion: Sunday, February 9, 12:30 – 5:00 pm (including 30 min break),

*Certificate available upon completion of both sessions (Saturday and Sunday).
Follow up virtual coaching call with Tamarack Institute: Thursday, February 27 from 5:30– 6:30 pm AST.

Location: Virtual Workshop (Zoom) – Local (Municipality of Tantramar) accommodations will be made available for those with limited computer/internet access.
